At the playground

We also took him to the playground while we were at the lake house and he had a great time with Nonnie (I took pictures, Nonnie went down the slide with him and without). When he goes down slides on his own he tends to come down feet first on his tummy.

On the Boat

We went out on the boat and Desmond had fun, he got to drive the boat, since he is old now. Doesn't everyone let their 16 month old drive a boat? My Dad helped him while he was steering.

Here are a couple of pictures of Desmond swimming with his Nonnie (my Mother). He loves the pool and swimming.

While we were there we saw my Grandfather twice, I finally got a couple of newer pictures of Desmond with him. The last pictures I have of Desmond with him are from last Thanksgiving, so it was time. Anyways here is Desmond, my Dad and my Grandfather.

So we finally went to the Atlanta Aquarium and Desmond got to see the "dish" he loved them. Here are a couple of pictures of him watching the "dish".

Desmond getting ready to go on a walk

So a couple of weeks ago, before we left for Atlanta, Desmond brought me his sneakers and his doggie to put on him. Being a good Mommy I did so. Here is Desmond all dressed up in what he thinks is needed for going on a walk.

Big Foot!

So yesterday after the ultrasound we went to Stride Rite since they are having a sale, and we figured we'd get the small one's foot measured again and get him two pairs of shoes, one at his current size, if it had changed and one a half a size bigger for when his foot grows.

So we had him measured right before we went on vacation in June he was still a 5 1/2 extra wide, apparently a month and a half makes a huge difference because he is now a 6 1/2 extra wide. No wonder his sneakers and sandals were getting tough to put on him.

We ended up only getting him one pair of sneakers, rather then two, since the other pair we liked didn't come in extra wide, his new sneakers are nice. Hopefully number 2 has a wide foot, since we now have three pairs of hardly used shoes from Desmond.

Gymboree Pictures

I realize it has been a bit since I last updated, so I took some pictures of Desmond today at Gymboree, and got around to downloading some other pictures off the camera cards. Here are a couple of pictures from this morning of Desmond at Gymboree.

Blueberry Picking with Dada and Dadi

Not this past Sunday, but the week before that, Sunday the 20th, we went out blueberry picking with my in-laws. Everyone had fun though it was really hot. Here are a couple of pictures of Desmond and my in-laws picking blueberries.

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate!

These two pictures are a bit old, they are from the trip down to North Carolina. Desmond was getting cranky and hungry so I gave him some trail mix that included chocolate covered peanuts. He quite enjoyed it.

Swimming well splashing at least

We went to my in-law's house on Saturday. They have a small blow up pool for Desmond, he had played in it last week too, but we hadn't known about it so he had no bathing suit then. We brought his bathing suit this time, he had lots of fun, he went in it twice about 2 hours apart. He likes playing in the water.

He also got to have an icy pop while out there here is his reaction to that:

Here are a bunch of him playing in the pool

Surprise!

Most everyone knows this announcement by now, but we bought Desmond a shirt to tell everyone. So here is his big announcement. You'll have to click to see the whole announcement.

Yep for the few people that haven't heard, I'm pregnant and due around March 10th. I have my first appointment on July 28th and I get to have an ultrasound so we'll have a picture of the bean. Desmond is going to be a big brother, what am I thinking 2 under 2, okay only for a month, but still!

15 month stats

Desmond had his 15 month appointment today. He gained 2 ounces in the past 3 months, which isn't surprising since he is so active. He did grow an inch. He is 50% for height and 45% for weight now. His head is still between 75 and 90%. We finished the last question on the current sheet for evaluating his development so we will get the 2 year sheet at his 18 month appointment. All and all the appointment went fine, no problems and we got the name of a pediatric dentist for him.

Now for the stats from birth to 15 months:

At birth he was 7 pounds 14 ounces and 20 3/4 inches
At one months he was 11 pounds and 23 inches
At two months he was 14 pounds and 24 1/2 inches
At four months he was 17 pounds 13 ounces and 26 1/2 inches
At 6 months he was 19 pounds 13 ounces and 27 inches
At 9 months he was 22 pounds 3 ounces and 29 inches
At 1 year (12 months) he was 23 pounds 8 ounces and 30 inches
At 15 months he is 23 pounds 10 ounces and 31 inches

Blueberries

We also picked a bunch of blueberries for Desmond. He loves blueberries, he had a ton while we were on vacation, so we decided to pick a bunch for him so he would have some at home. We got him 4 pounds, hopefully it will last the week. Here are a couple of pictures of him and the blueberries.

Mommom and Poppop

On our way down and back we stopped at my Grandparents house in Richmond. It was almost midway and it gave Desmond time to run around after being stuck in the car. Here are a couple of pictures of Desmond with two of his Great-Grandparents. They aren't great because he wasn't willing to stay still long enough for me to get any really good pictures, but they work.

Desmond did wave bye-bye as we were ready to head out to gohome.

Random Vacation Pictures

Here are a couple of pictures that don't fit elsewhere. Two are of Desmond up on the loft looking out. The other two just amused me. We had a lot of fun on vacation, it was nice and relaxing, rather then being go, go, go, which was nice.

While we were on vacation in New Bern we went to the Beach one day with my Dad. My Mom had to work, here are a bunch of beach pictures from it. Strawberries for Father's Day

So for Father's Day we went Strawberry picking. Which is amusing when you realize Dan doesn't even like Strawberries. Desmond does however. We have recently been letting Desmond chose his own clothes out of a choice of 2 or 3 shirts. So Dan let Desmond chose his own shirt for the expedition, unfortunately he forgot to let him chose from non-white shirts. So we have another very strawberry shirt in the end. Here are a bunch of pictures I took of Desmond as Dan picked Strawberries.

The playground

So this morning Desmond was running around like a boundless ball of energy. Up the stairs, down the stairs, through the living room into the kitchen, rinse and repeat. So I decided we would go to the playground and burn off some of the energy before it got too hot. So around 11 we searched for his shoes and finally found two matching shoes that fit. I then put him in the Beco and walked to the playground, which is all of 5 minutes away or so. It was around 82F (28ish C for those who use Celsius) out so it wasn't too bad out. When we got to the playground he ran around some and played in the sandbox, the swing and the bouncy car. The slides were a bit hot so he didn't want to climb up them, and he had no interest in climbing up the play structures stairs either. We played for about 40 minutes and came home, where he had lunch and then was quite ready for his nap. Here are some pictures of him having fun.

Guacamole

Desmond likes avacados. While I don't mind them, I don't normally buy them, because I also don't love them. He also likes Guacamole, so when we were grocery shopping we found a small package of Guacamole, with two packages of it in it and picked it up for him. Desmond also likes feeding himself, but still isn't a huge fan of forks or spoons, so he tends to get a wee bit messy. Anyways here are some pictures of Desmond after his before bed snack of Guacamole.

Sitting in my high chair, high chair, high chair!

Sitting in my high chair banging my spoons! Anyways talking of climbing, we recently reset Desmond's chair. We took off the baby bar, but still use the straps, we also lowered the seat, since it was starting to be to high, and put the bottom piece back on. This means Desmond can now climb into his chair and sit down. Here are a couple of pictures of him doing just that last night. We keep his chair now down on it's back so he can't climb up on it and get into trouble.

Posted by tabrizia at 01:52 PM

Climbing Everywhere!

Desmond is finally tall enough he can climb onto my computer chair, he can also climb onto Dan's chair, with the help of the two boxes we keep over there to keep him out of the corner where Dan's computer is. Here are a couple of pictures Dan took when he saw that Desmond could climb onto my chair.

Apple

On Thursday of last week we went to the farmers market. We bought sugar snap peas, bread, jam and apples. While Dan was putting things away Desmond decided to try an apple, at which point we learned that he can eat apples without us having to slice them. They have been a huge hit with him, he loves eating an apple and carting it around with him till he is finished. After he is done, K-line is nice enough to eat the other half, apparently the dog likes apples too.

Pictures, Pictures get your Pictures here!

So I went through the cameras today and pulled off all the various pictures of Desmond that I haven't put up on the blog yet, so there are a lot of pictures coming, you have been warned. I'm going to try to go oldest to newest, but no promises.

First up are pictures of Desmond making a mess, shocking isn't it? We aren't closing the gate that often anymore so he has run of the house, he mainly likes to pull things out of drawers in the kitchen. Here is what I found him doing the other day, pulling all the plastic bags out of their boxes. As you can tell he is quite proud of himself.

Moving on up

So Desmond is in Gymboree we go once or twice a week, we have a lot of make sessions that lets us get that second session in, he has been going since he was 4 months old or so and in level 1, we moved to level 2 at 5 months and level 3 at 8 months (normally it is level 1: newborn to 6 months, level 2: 6 to 10 months, level 3: 10 to 16 months) anyways we are moving up to level 4 at 14 months. The class he is in is really crowded and he is past the level they are at, and we have had a bunch of new babies in the class so the class is now skewed towards the younger end of the age range, which changes the dynamics a lot, since he is no where near the lower end of the spectrum in the class.

For instance today's activities focused on walking. Desmond has been walking well for the past 4 months, so it was kind of pointless. Plus he really isn't fond of having between 12 and 15 other kids in the class, we prefer about 8 in the class. I talked to his teacher today and she agreed that he is ready, so tomorrow we're going to try out the level 4 Gymboree class and see if what we think, we'll probably move up, though I am not sure if we're going to do the Friday 10:30 class or the Tuesday 10:30 class, I know we aren't going to the 9:30 classes since he is barely awake then, just need to decide if Tuesday or Friday works better for us overall.

So we are moving up in the world and in Gymboree, it should be fun.

Brag: he recognizes D!

Okay the listing the words he knows post was not really a brag, despite what my Mom says (hi Mom!). And I should probably add some of his new words in as well, he's gained a good dozen since that post, but anyways, this post is a brag.

Desmond recognizes the letter D. If you ask him where the D is he will pull out the right alphabet letter from his bath letters. He will also point it out in books, which is when I first realized he knew it, he pointed to a D in one of his books and said D. He will also just randomly pick up his alphabet D and hold it up and say D.

I think he may recognize S and E as well, but I know he recognizes D, how cool is that!

So that mom is a real brag, at under 14 months old Desmond knows the letter D!

The Aquarium

So we went to the Aquarium today with Noah, we had invited Clare along too but she was out of town. We had fun and Desmond loved looking at the "dish" (fish). We didn't spend a ton of time, since Desmond is only 14 months, but he does enjoy the "dish". It makes the season passes nice though, since we tend to only spend an hour or two in the aquarium before he is done, and if we had to buy $20 tickets each time Desmond won't get to see "dish" that often. After the aquarium we went to 5 guys since Noah had heard good things about them. Both of us were less them impressed, Dan and Desmond's thoughts don't really count here. They were decent, but they weren't the amazingness that Noah had been lead to believe or that I had heard they were. Oh well it was a nice lunch still. Anyways here are some pictures from the Aquarium.

Splashing in the Bird Bath

Desmond loves water. He loves splashing in water, in fact the main reason we still don't let him in the kitchen most of the time is because he will head right to K-line's water bowl and splash in it. He'll also try to eat K-line's food, but he is more likely to splash in his water. Anyways when we were at my in-laws Desmond played with thier bird bath, and got quite wet, the bird bath got quite a bit emptier as well.

Memorial Day Pictures

I've been meaning to get these pictures up for awhile, but well Desmond likes to turn off my computer where I download and edit my photos for the web, so it has taken a bit to get them ready. Anyways these are pictures from last Sunday, we went over my in-laws and had a nice Barbecue with them, and Noah and Clare. Noah and Clare took some of these pictures I think, since they were enjoying playing with the DSLR. Anyways here are some of the pictures from the day.

Strawberry Farm

This morning we took Desmond out to the pick your own farm. It was the opening of their season. They just had strawberries available today, but he was quite happy with that. He loved walking down the aisles with the strawberries and picking them off the bush to eat. He had a lot of fun, and we ended up picking 11 pounds of strawberries. Hopefully that will last us for awhile. Anyways here are a lot of pictures from our adventure. I've split the pictures into numerous posts so it isn't so overwhelming. The first picture here is Dan showing Desmond a strawberry. The rest in this post are Desmond playing and eating the first strawberry he got.

Words

Desmond talks a lot at 13 months and has a bunch of words, he is also talking in two and three word phrases once or twice a day now. I just want to list the words he knows so I have a list if I need it, I am sure I will forget some in this list, but that's okay I'll just add them later. I always feel bad listing things like this because he is a bit ahead of the milestones and it just seems like bragging even when it isn't. Anyways here is a lit of the main words Desmond knows and says, including words he signs.

He signs:

He says:

Baby Milestone: First ER visit

So this afternoon I decided to let Desmond play in the bathtub for a bit, since he likes to play with his toys in the bubbles. So he was happily playing something like the picture below.

Anyways as he was standing up he slipped and hit his eye on the edge of his toy or the tub, I figured he was fine and was playing with him some when I noticed his eye was bleeding. Eek! So we quickly got him out of the tub, and dried off so I could look at his eye. DH got home right around then and we called the doctor. It was a little bloodly and cut, but we couldn't see anything in the eye, so we figured it was probably just a surface injury out the eye. The service said they would have the doctor call us back. My in-laws were over so Desmond was playing with them happily, so we figured he was doing okay. We realized it had been about an hour so we called back the service and talked to the doctor, she suggested heading to the ER just to check and make he hadn't broken his eye bone. So we all packed up and had a family field trip to the ER.

Once we got the ER we were quickly checked in and moved back to pediatrics, much faster then with an adult, nice benefit of being 13 months I guess. The nurse came in and checked out his eye, and said the doctor would be with us shortly. The doctor checked him out and decided he didn't need an x-ray and it was just a cut. So we all happily headed to dinner. So today's adventure was a nice visit to the ER with Desmond because of his eye. Below are some of the pictures of him with the nurse looking at his eye and a close up of his eye.

Portrait of the artist as a toddler

Desmond likes to draw, he loves using his crayons to make pictures. We also tried finger paints and paint brushes, which he isn't as sure about. Anyways here are a bunch of pictures of him painting and drawing and some pictures of his works. Painting is a full body experience and involves both touch and tasting the paints. Which is why we don't paint that often yet. For those wondering I am pretty sure he is a lefty, he tends to do most things with his left hand.

New Bed for Desmond

So we're thinking about making Desmond up his own big boy room, with his own big boy bed. Because honestly as much as I love him sleeping with us, we really want to get him to bed around 9 and to be able to have him sleep alone till we come to bed around midnight, and he just isn't safe in our bed doing so (plus he wakes if I get up, but that's another story). So we're thinking about making K-line's room into Desmond's big boy room.

So we've been looking at furniture for it. I think we found a bunk bed we like for it, we have looked at a bunch of places, the one we like is a pretty mapleish color and has a full bed on bottom (which is something we want) and a twin for the top bunk. You can get storage drawers for the space between the bed and the floor and the dresser is nice as well. We still need to check our IKEA, but I think we've mostly made up our mind on getting the one we've already seen. Hopefully he will be able to sleep in it all alone for a few hours every night so we can get some time without Desmond, it would be kind of nice to have a few hours for just me and Dan.

We figure a bed will work better then a crib, because he hates sleeping in his crib and won't do it, and with his own grown up bed, I can nurse him down in it and get up rather then having to try to move him and wake him up.

Table Climbing

So I went out to the kitchen to make lunch like I do every day. While I am out there I hear the sound of a glass tipping over and hitting something (not breaking). I knew we had 2 glasses on the table, but there is no way Desmond climbed up there right? Erm wrong. So here are some picture of my little mischief maker. He uses the Green Boon Potty/step stool as a step stool so he can reach the chair, you can see it in a few of the end pictures. You can see how proud of himself he is as well. We re-enacted the scene, since at the time I couldn't find my camera, which is why I have pictures of him climbing up, in the original instance I just looked and saw him sitting on the table.

Blueberry Pie!

We had blueberry pie dessert last night at my in-laws, and Desmond quite enjoyed it. See for yourself:

Dan was impressed he got blueberries on his leg, I was more impressed that he got them in his armpits:

Yes it really did take 3 people to clean him up afterwards:

Eating Jello Salad

We had dinner at my in-laws, and my mother in law made Jello Salad. We learned last week at my Grandmother in law's that Desmond loves Jello, so we gave him some of the Jello Salad. It had pineapple and cottage cheese in it. Here are some pictures of Desmond eating it.

The first couple are his faces while eating cottage cheese:

He had to make sure the Jello was enjoyed by all his body parts including his hair!

Here he is enjoying his Jello salad:

Last but not least is him getting ready and licking the high chair tray so as to get as much of the Jello as he can:

Outside in the in-laws back yard

We went over my in-laws yesterday, had a great time. Since it was a nice day out my mother in law and I took Desmond outside while Dan and his Dad went out to pick up a new lawnmower, they couldn't fit it in their car, so we used our Matrix. Anyways here are some of pictures from the yard.

Here are a couple of him with my Mother in Law:

Here are some of him exploring:

Here are a couple of him walking, he is getting much better at walking outside:

Duplo Box

Last night or the night before, I think it was Wednesday night. I looked over and saw Desmond had somehow gotten himself stuck in the Duplo box. So being a good Mommy I went ahead and took pictures rather then helping him to get out.

Crayons and an upset Desmond

So I decided to let Desmond play with the crayons again today to see if he wanted to draw rather then eat them. Silly me, he likes eating them. Here are a bunch of unhappy Desmond pictures. In the first few he is getting over his upset because I gave him back a crayon to play with. In the second set he is very unhappy because I won't give him a crayon anymore, since he'd had his wax allowance for the day.

He isn't big on drawing on the paper, but his leg and shirt are good surfaces to draw on.

Here are the second very unhappy set of pictures. He is so cute when he's crying.

You can see the crayon in his mouth in this one.

I love his lips in this one.

Enough pictures Mommy! Talk to the hand.

In the chair

So Sunday evening after getting out of the diaper basket, Desmond decided to push the ottoman over so he could get up in the rocking chair. Here are a couple of the pictures we took of him there.

I love this picture of him. He sort of looks like a zombie!

One Year Stats!

We went to Desmond's 1 year check up today. He is doing great, we finished filling out the developmental milestone sheet, only problem with that is we don't get a new one till he is 2, since that sheet is for 9 months to 24 months. Oh well at least we know he is developing well.

He had one shot, his DTaP and didn't seem to mind it. We'll get him another shot at his 15 month appointment. Based on our plans for his delayed shot schedule he should be caught up to all the vaccines we plan to get him by the time he's 3. I bet that will make his pediatrician happy at least (you can see her squirm about us delaying).

His growth has slowed some, but that is expected he grew an inch since his 9 month appointment and gained a pound and 5 ounces. He is in the 50thpercentile for weight now and the 75th percentile for height. He is in the 80th percentile for head circumference (48cm).

Now for the stats from birth to 1:

At birth he was 7 pounds 14 ounces and 20 3/4 inches
At one months he was 11 pounds and 23 inches
At two months he was 14 pounds and 24 1/2 inches
At four months he was 17 pounds 13 ounces and 26 1/2 inches
At 6 months he was 19 pounds 13 ounces and 27 inches
At 9 months he was 22 pounds 3 ounces and 29 inches
At 1 year (12 months) he is 23 pounds 8 ounces and 30 inches

So he's gained 15 pounds and 14 ounces in a year, almost exactly tripling his birth weight (he is 2 ounces over tripling). He's also grown 9 and 1/4th inches. So he had a great first year and gained weight and height quite nicely. We are extremely pleased. Now to see how much he grows in his second year of life.

A very mischievous child...

So after the party at home Desmond decided to climb into his diaper box. Here are some pictures of him in it. He later climbed up onto the rocking chair, but I haven't gotten those pictures off the camera yet. He was very mischievous last night though.

First are a couple of closeups of him:

Another Party

So yesterday we went to my Grandmother in law's apartment for a second birthday party for Desmond. Most of Dan's (all but his parents) we're able to make his party so we held something on Sunday instead. We also celebrated my Grandmother in law's 81st birthday. We went out to eat lunch at a Chinese Buffet. It was fun and we enjoyed it, so here are the pictures from the party.

First is him opening presents:

Next is him playing with them:

Here he is with the cake (and his cupcake):

Birthday Party

Here are some of the pictures we took at Desmond's birthday party. For some reason our good camera was acting up, either over or underexposing the picture so we didn't get that many pictures (even though we took a ton). Here are the ones that I liked out of the ones that seemed to come out decently.

On the way to the party:

Opening presents:

Cake!:

After cake (or Wow is he a mess!):

And last are 2 pictures of Desmond, me, my Mom and my Grandmother (note I didn't say they were good pictures):

Desmond is turning one in less then 12 hours!

Wow that went fast. It is really hard to believe that I was in labor with him at this time last year. The year has gone so fast. I find it difficult to believe how fast he's grown in only year. He went from a baby who was 7 pounds 14 ounces and 21 inches to a toddler who is around 24 pounds and 31 inches (not positive on measurements since we don't see the doctor till the 14th).

He has gone from a baby that slept, ate and pooped (and peed) to a little boy who eats, sleeps, poops (and pees), but also plays by himself, walks, chases the dog, talks, manipulates his environment to meet his needs (such as moving his walker to the chair and using it to climb up), claps, laughs, shares his toys and food (if we want it or not), and flirts with everyone he sees. It is just weird to see all these changes in him in one year. He is growing up so fast, and it is really strange since a year seems a lot longer then it really is.

In picture form he has gone from this:

to this:

In the blink of an eye. We have his birthday party tomorrow, I am sure it will be lots of fun. I'll post pictures from it when I get them up. It is just weird to think that my little baby is already 1 (or will be in under 12 hours).
