Desmond's One Year Pictures
On Sunday we went to the photo place and got Desmond's one year photos done. We've been going there since he was a newborn. Apparently there has been a recent management change and our photographer (yes we had a photographer who always took his pictures) is gone. We like his one year pictures, but are thinking that for his 18 months photos we might try the other place in the mall, not sure yet, but I think we likely will.
Anyways here are Desmond's one year pictures the Sunday before he turns 1 (he is 1 this Saturday eek!).

Happy Birthday to me a few days late
Or wow I'm 30? I don't feel grown up!
My birthday was last Wednesday. I turned 30, I don't feel 30, but that doesn't really mean anything. Getting older is also good since the alternative is bad. I had a good birthday, we went on a walk and then out to dinner, it was nice. I got a couple of gifts which I like and my parents sent me flowers. Other then that it was a pretty basic day, unlike this coming Saturday when we will have a party for the small one as he turns 1. Now that makes me feel old. Where did the past year go?

Standing from sitting
The last step Desmond really needed to be an independent walker was the ability to get up from the middle of the floor rather then having to crawl over to something to pull himself up. He has officially hit that milestone now, he can get up to standing from the middle of the floor. We figured he would figure it out soon since he's been able to bend down and pick something up for awhile now. It seems to have clicked though and he's been doing it all morning/afternoon now.
In other cute Desmond stuff, he brings me a clean diaper when he wants to be changed about 80% of the time now, which is nice.

Close ups of an 11 month old's face
Here are a couple of close up pictures I took of Desmond while we were out today. I think they came out nice. He looks like such a little toddler now instead of a baby. Where has time gone, he'll be 1 in 2 weeks (eek!).

Clap Clap Clap
Here are a couple of cute pictures of Desmond clapping while we were at the soccer fields.

This is my favorite picture of him clapping, it is just a great picture.

Random pictures from the fields
Here are a couple of pictures from the soccer fields. One of them is Desmond's on my back in a carrier (which is how we brought him to the fields). The other three are him sitting in the fields.

Walking on the fields
Here are a couple of pictures of Desmond walking on the soccer fields. He needs help because he isn't use to his new shoes yet (you can see them in the pictures), he also isn't quite sure of the walking on the ground thing yet either. He had fun walking with me and Dan though.

He is losing his shoe in this picture, right after it was taken he kept walking and the shoe stayed behind.

K-line and Desmond
Today was a gorgeous day out and I wanted to get some pictures of K-line and Desmond together so we took them out to the soccer field. We got a couple of very cute pictures of them together, and a bunch more that weren't so great. Here the 5 that I liked out of the 200 we took.

Desmond and Yogurt
Since Desmond has an ear infection he's on antibiotics. Since I don't want him to get a yeast rash or other nasties we've been giving him a probiotic and yogurt every evening at dinner. He really enjoys playing with it and even eats a bit I think. He tends to get a bath after dinner now as well, since he is not a neat eater!

Desmond with an Easter Basket
We went to visit my in-laws yesterday since Desmond hasn't seen them since before we left for Atlanta. We all had a nice time visiting. They had gotten an Easter Basket for Desmond so here are a couple of the pictures I took of him with it.

Updated Look
I decided it was about time to update the look of the blog, since I haven't changed it since November 06. I decided to go with a Spring theme. I like it, which is good, since if the fact it has been a year and a half since I last updated my look is any indication, it will probably be awhile till I update this one. I think it is a nice spring time look, so enjoy.

Pictures from Atlanta
Desmond and I went to Atlanta March 9th - 18th. It was fun, we enjoyed spending time with my parents and siblings. He got to see all his Aunts and Uncles which was nice. Anyways here are a couple of the pictures I took while there, I have a video too, but I need to upload it still.
First two are him standing and walking at my parent's house on different days:

Next is him eating spinach ravioli at my aunt and uncle's lake house where we stayed since my parent's is under renovation still.

Next is him playing with an xylophone which he played with on his play date with another little baby a month older then him, who is the grand daughter of friend's of my parent's at the lake.

Last are a couple of pictures of him on the boat with my Mom and sleeping.

Another First!
We have a first sentence. Desmond said "Hi Dog." about 30 minutes ago. He's been talking up a storm tonight, to bad I only understand about half of what he says.

Baby Firsts!
We had some new firsts this weekend. Desmond has his first ear infection poor baby, so we are giving him antibiotics for it. They are helping and he feels much better now 1 day after starting them.
In other firsts he has real shoes now. He had Pedipeds for his naming in November and for Christmas, but they weren't outdoor shoes really. He now has his first pair of Stride rite sneakers. He is so cute in them, though he isn't sure on the walking in them yet. He is a size 5 extra wide right now. In related news, dang shoes for toddlers are expensive!

Cloth DIaper Info
Someone on a messageboard I visit asked about cloth diapers, and I wrote out the following response. I decided it was a fairly decent review of different types of cloth diapers, so I wanted to keep it saved so I can use it again if needed. So everyone on my blog can enjoy my info about cloth diapers post.
Here is some basic information about cloth diapers. First off the best brand really depends on your child and how you want to diaper them. There are thousands of different types of cloth diapers. The basic types are: Flats, Prefolds, Fitteds (and prefitteds), Pockets, All in Ones (and All in Twos).
Everything but Pockets and All in Ones (and All in Twos) need covers.
Your cheapest Option is Flats or Prefolds, Flats are one straight sheet of cloth which you fold to your needs, most new users don't use them since they have a large learning curve. I haven't used them yet, though we are thinking about using them when we go to India, just because they are extremely easy to pack (take up next to no room) and they wash and dry easily. Basically they look like the basic recieving blanket, when unfolded.
Prefolds are similar to Flats and what most people think of when you say cloth diapers. They are made into three panels, 2 outside and one inside. The outside panels have between 2 and 4 layers od cloth and the inside layers have between 4 and 8 layers of cloth. Most are cotton, but there are velour, bamboo, hemp and other types that you can find it you look for them. You then fold the diaper to fit around your child and pin it(or snappi it) or just put it in the cover without pinning it.
Your next option are Fitteds or Prefitteds. These are what we normally use. There are tons of brands for these. Basically a prefitted is a prefold, cut and sometimes with elastic in it, made into a diaper shape so all you have to do is put it on the baby without worrying about folding, they can have snaps (our mainly do) or elastic on them so you don't have to worry about how to fasten them. Fitteds are basically the same as prefitteds, but they use other materiels then the prefold. They almost always have fastenings.
Next are pockets, All in Ones, and All in Twos. None of these diapers need a cover. They are the closest to disposables you can get. We have used both pockets and All in Ones (I'm not that sure about all in 2s). They are great for going out since you don't need a separate cover. Pocket diapers have an area where you insert a lining, which is nice in that you can decide how absorbent to make it, on the other hand you have to remove the lining before washing. All in Ones have everything there, no stuffing just put it on and go. The negative to these is they can take longer to wash, because everything is in the diaper. The All in 2s are like All in Ones, but I believe they have a snap in lining rather then having it sewn in, to make drying faster (I'm not very sure about these, I've never had any or seen any, they are fairly rare).
The last thing to know about for diapers is for any of them but the All in Ones and Pockets you need a cover for them. They are various types of covers, wool (which we use) PUL (waterproof materiel) and Fleece are the normal and most common types. These need to be on the diapers when you put clothes on the baby otherwise their clothes will get wet. We actually tend to leave Desmond coverless at home, which is why most pictures of him have him in just his diaper (I'm lazy and he needs to be changed a lot).
I hope this post helps explain a bit about the differences in the various types of diapers that are out there.
