New Blog Name

Since my blog seems to have nothing to do with math anymore I've been thinking about changing it's name for awhile. See the post here from April. Anyways I finally decided the name really needed to change so Dan and I were throwing around names tonight. We thought about Crunchy Kids and debated a couple of others as well. I ended up throwing out A Mile from Mainstream. We both stopped and went that's it. So Math Freak is now A Mile from Mainstream. I didn't want anything too child centered since even though most of the blog is about Desmond, and his future sibling, it is still my blog. I think this new name works well, let me know what you think.

Don't hit *slap*

So we went out to IHOPs for lunch today since we had some shopping to do. While we were there a couple with their daughter who looked a couple of months younger then Desmond was seated next to us. So figure a little girl around 13 months old. Dan and I both sitting there dealing with Desmond when we heard the little girl's mother say, "Don't hit" and then we heard the mother hit the little girl and continue with, "See it hurts." She did it about 3 times. Neither of us said anything because we really didn't want to deal with it and Desmond was almost done eating.

When we got back into the car though we both looked at each other and asked, "Did you hear that woman and her don't hit, slap thing?" Neither of us could understand how she possible thought hitting her child after her child had hit her was teaching the child not to hit. Let alone the fact that at 13 months distraction is about the only thing that works anyways. We were just boggling at the mind that thought hitting the child back, was the correct way to teach the child not to hit. It seemed more like reinforcement to both of us.

I just don't get people some times.

Baby Update

Well I'm 10 weeks now, actually about half way through the 10th week. All in all, I have no real symptoms, a few food aversion, and some exhaustion, but I tend to blame most of the exhaustion on trying to keep up with Desmond. What little morning sickness I have had has long since passed, not that I had much, I think I had more with Desmond, and that is saying a lot, since I had one true episode with him.

I seriously would doubt I was pregnant if I hadn't seen the baby's heart beating and such. It has been fairly stress free so far which is really nice. My next appointment isn't till September 8th. It will be nice to go in and be checked out and hear the heartbeat.

No real complaints at this point though, the pregnancy is going fairly well and it is kind of weird to think I'm almost through the first trimester already, hopefully I will get some energy back when I hit second trimester. Just keeping everyone updated, no real news on the baby front though. I'm sure there'll be some more news come October and the 20 weeks ultrasound.

At the playground

We also took him to the playground while we were at the lake house and he had a great time with Nonnie (I took pictures, Nonnie went down the slide with him and without). When he goes down slides on his own he tends to come down feet first on his tummy.

On the Boat

We went out on the boat and Desmond had fun, he got to drive the boat, since he is old now. Doesn't everyone let their 16 month old drive a boat? My Dad helped him while he was steering.

Swimming

Here are a couple of pictures of Desmond swimming with his Nonnie (my Mother). He loves the pool and swimming.

With Great Grandpa

While we were there we saw my Grandfather twice, I finally got a couple of newer pictures of Desmond with him. The last pictures I have of Desmond with him are from last Thanksgiving, so it was time. Anyways here is Desmond, my Dad and my Grandfather.

Back from Atlanta

We're back from Atlanta, have been since Monday actually. I got a bunch of pictures uploaded yesterday, but didn't have time to post till today. We had a lot of fun. Desmond loved playing with his Grandpa and Nonnie. We went out to dinner with a bunch of relatives for my aunt and uncle's 30th wedding anniversary the first night we arrived, which was nice, though late, Desmond fell asleep on the way back to the lake house and didn't wake till morning. He did enjoy his chocolate shake though.

We had fun at the Children's museum with a couple of people from a message board I frequent who also had babies the same time as I had Desmond. All my pictures from that came out really dark though, so I'm not putting any up. He loved the fishies at the Aquarium and it was nice spending time with my middle sister, who I don't spend much time with. He also loved swimming a lot while we were at the lake house and going out on the boat. He wasn't as thrilled with Grandpa for taking him down the water slide twice though. Maybe next year. All in all we had a lot of fun, though by the end Desmond was definitely missing his Daddy.

Desmond getting ready to go on a walk

So a couple of weeks ago, before we left for Atlanta, Desmond brought me his sneakers and his doggie to put on him. Being a good Mommy I did so. Here is Desmond all dressed up in what he thinks is needed for going on a walk.
